Scripture readings for a wedding liturgy

Sacrament of Marriage

Jesus said: “From the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female. For this reason, a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, no human being must separate.”

Mark 10:6-9

As You journey toward your wedding day, please know how happy we are to be part of the celebration of this very special sacrament. This wedding guide is a tool to provide you with the information necessary to complete the music portion of your wedding. Please review this guide and contact me with any questions. Thank you!

Music Selections

The selection of the music for your wedding day is special and unique to each couple and liturgical celebration. The following quotations from the document, “Sing to the Lord: Music in Divine Worship, ” created by the US Conference of Catholic Bishops, call us to create worship that celebrates our faith through music. These excerpts will help us understand the liturgical expectations of the Catholic Church. Please reflect upon the following passages:

+”Particular decisions about choice and placement of wedding music should be based on the three judgments: The liturgical judgment, the pastoral judgment, and the musical judgment”

+Music should reflect the truth that all sacraments celebrate the Paschal Mystery of Christ”

+Secular music, even though it may emphasize the love of the spouses for one another, is not appropriate for the Sacred Liturgy. Songs chosen for the Liturgy should be appropriate for the celebration and express the faith of the Church.

+The music that contains sung text (lyrics) is chosen for its ability to communicate our gratitude for this love we share with God, and with one another. It also declares that we believe God to be the most important part of our new married life, and expresses our need for God’s help in our life together.

God Bless you both!
